Write me a riddle
Your child writes a riddle, you try to solve it

Show your child how a riddle is built, then let them invent one and watch you struggle to solve it. Trade two or three before bed.
You’ll need
- Nothing (paper helps)
How to do it together
- 1
Share a classic riddle: what has hands but can't clap? (A clock.)
- 2
Show the trick: pick an object, find something odd about it, and describe it in a sneaky way.
- 3
Your child picks an object and writes their riddle.
- 4
You try to solve it (take your time).
- 5
Swap and trade riddles until bedtime.
Make it easier
Start with simple "I'm thinking of something…" clues.
Make it harder
Write riddles in rhyme.
Why it’s worth it
Inventing riddles is creative thinking in disguise, and kids love stumping a grown-up.
