Walk a donation over
Give together, then talk about it

Fill a bag with pantry items together, then walk or bike it to a local food pantry or donation bin instead of driving. Talk on the way about who might open that bag.
You’ll need
- A sturdy bag
- Canned or boxed food from your pantry
- The address of a food pantry or donation bin nearby
How to do it together
- 1
Look up a food pantry or donation bin within walking or biking distance, and check what they need most.
- 2
Let your child choose the items from your pantry and pack the bag.
- 3
Walk or bike there together. Let your child carry the bag for at least part of the way.
- 4
On the way, talk: who might open this bag? What would you want to find in it?
- 5
Hand it over together, and on the walk home ask how it felt.
Make it easier
Bring a wagon for the bag, and keep the walk short.
Make it harder
Let your child plan it: find the pantry, check their list of needs and plan the route.
Why it’s worth it
Giving is easier to understand with your feet than with words. Kids who carry the bag themselves remember who it was for.
