Talk me through it
A blindfold obstacle game

Build a simple obstacle path with cushions and chairs, then blindfold one person while a partner guides them through with words only. Then swap, so the kids steer a parent.
You’ll need
- A scarf or sleep mask
- Cushions, chairs and other soft objects
How to do it together
- 1
Build a path through the living room with cushions to step over and chairs to go around.
- 2
The parent goes first, wearing the blindfold.
- 3
Your child guides you with words only: two steps forward, left, big step. No touching, no pointing.
- 4
Swap roles. Now you guide them.
- 5
Try harder rounds: only left and right allowed, or whisper-only.
Safety: Soft objects only, and clear the path of anything sharp or breakable.
Make it easier
Use a shorter path, and allow a hand on the shoulder.
Make it harder
Change the path while the person is blindfolded, so they have to trust every word.
Why it’s worth it
It builds trust both ways. Kids love being in charge of a grown-up, and they learn how much clear words matter.
