Say it without saying it
Describe the word without saying it

Describe a word to your child without using the word itself or three forbidden clue words, then swap roles. Expect a lot of flailing and laughing.
You’ll need
- Paper slips with a word and three forbidden clue words on each
How to do it together
- 1
Make cards: the word at the top and three banned words below (pizza: cheese, Italy, slice).
- 2
One person describes the word without saying any banned word.
- 3
The other guesses.
- 4
Use a one-minute timer per turn.
- 5
Swap, and count who guessed the most.
Make it easier
Allow one banned word, or use gestures.
Make it harder
Kids make cards for the grown-ups, with the hardest banned words they can think of.
Why it’s worth it
It stretches vocabulary and creativity, and watching a parent struggle is the best part.
