Park Olympics

Three events and homemade medals

60 min Ages 5-13 Outside
Park Olympics: a parent and child doing it together

Head to the park for three events: a sprint, a long jump and a frisbee throw. Make paper medals and hand them out at the end.

You’ll need

How to do it together

  1. 1

Make the medals at home first: circles of paper with a ribbon or string. Make one for everyone.

  2. 2

At the park, mark a start line and a finish line for the sprint.

  3. 3

Event 1: the sprint. Event 2: the long jump from a line. Event 3: the longest frisbee throw.

  4. 4

Cheer every try, and let kids have a second go at the event they like most.

  5. 5

Medal ceremony: everyone gets a medal for something (fastest, highest jump, best cheering).

Make it easier

Give little ones a head start, and make the events "hop like a frog" and "run like a cheetah".

Make it harder

Measure every result with steps, write them down and try to beat them next month.

Why it’s worth it

Kids love when a parent takes a silly game seriously. The medals end up on their wall.
