Make a coupon book
A gift made of time, not money

Help your child draw and cut simple coupons they can give instead of buying something: a hug, help with the dishes, a bedtime story. Talk about how time can be worth more than money.
You’ll need
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Kid-safe scissors
- A stapler or tape
How to do it together
- 1
Fold a sheet of paper into eight and cut along the folds to make little coupons.
- 2
Ask: who should get this book? Grandma, a sibling, Dad?
- 3
Brainstorm gifts that cost nothing: a hug, a song, setting the table, a drawing, a story read aloud.
- 4
Your child draws one gift on each coupon. You can write the words if they ask.
- 5
Make a cover, staple it together, and help them plan when to give it.
Make it easier
For a 5-year-old, make four big coupons with one drawing each, and you do the cutting.
Make it harder
For an 8-year-old, add an expiry date and a "terms" line ("Valid on Saturdays only") just for laughs.
Why it’s worth it
Your child learns that the best gifts are time and help, and feels proud handing over something they made. Expect someone to cash in a coupon within a day.
