Make a calm-down mug
Warm drinks and an easy end-of-day talk

Warm some milk or brew tea together, sit down with two mugs and let the day unwind out loud. The making is half the point: hands busy, eyes forward, words come easier.
You’ll need
- Milk, cocoa or tea
- Two mugs
How to do it together
- 1
Make two warm drinks together. Let your kid handle a part of it.
- 2
Sit side by side, not across a table.
- 3
Ask an easy question: what was the best part of today?
- 4
Then a deeper one: what drained you today? What helped?
- 5
Listen more than you talk. End with: what does tomorrow need?
Safety: Take care with hot liquids and the stove.
Make it easier
Just sip and talk about anything at all.
Make it harder
Make it a weekly ritual on the same night.
Why it’s worth it
Preteens talk more when they don't have to look at you. A warm mug gives everyone something to do with their hands.
With Weekadoo

Every Sunday, a plan with a 10-minute idea for each child on weeknights and a family one for the weekend, picked for their ages and what they love.
