Charades night
Act it out, no words allowed

Split into two teams, parents on different sides, and act things out without saying a word. The sillier the acting, the louder the laughing.
You’ll need
- Paper slips with ideas to act (animals, actions, favorite stories)
- A bowl
- A timer
How to do it together
- 1
Write ideas on slips of paper that your youngest knows: elephant, brushing teeth, a superhero, a cat chasing a laser.
- 2
Split into two teams with one grown-up on each side.
- 3
Take turns pulling a slip and acting it out for your team. No talking, no pointing at objects.
- 4
Give each actor one minute. A right guess is a point.
- 5
Let the kids write a round of ideas for the grown-ups to act.
Make it easier
For 4-year-olds, use animals only, and allow sounds.
Make it harder
For older kids, use movie or book titles with the classic charades signs (number of words, sounds like).
Why it’s worth it
Watching a parent act out a chicken laying an egg is a core family memory. Charades gets everyone off the couch and laughing together.
