Draw and guess
A one-minute family drawing game

Paper, a pencil and a one-minute timer. One person draws, everyone else guesses. The worse the drawing, the better the game.
You’ll need
- Paper and pencils
- A timer (a phone or a sand timer)
- A few words to draw, written on slips
How to do it together
- 1
Write simple words on slips of paper: cat, pizza, rocket, grandma's house. Fold them into a bowl.
- 2
The first artist picks a slip and has one minute to draw it. No letters, no numbers, no talking.
- 3
Everyone else shouts guesses. Whoever guesses right draws next.
- 4
Go first with the hardest word, so your kids see that bad drawings are part of the fun.
- 5
After a few rounds, let the kids write the words for the grown-ups.
Make it easier
For 4- and 5-year-olds, use words they can draw in shapes (sun, ball, house) and give them two minutes.
Make it harder
For 10 and up, use actions or movie titles, and cut the time to 30 seconds.
Why it’s worth it
Everybody is equally bad at drawing a cow in one minute. That evens the field and gets the whole table laughing together.
