Letter to future me

A letter to open one year from now

15 min Ages 9-13 Indoors
Letter to future me: a parent and child doing it together

Your child writes a short letter to their future self, to open in one year. You write one to them too. Seal them and pick a date.

You’ll need

How to do it together

  1. 1

Each of you gets a sheet of paper.

  2. 2

Your child writes to themselves: what they love right now, their friends, what they hope for next year.

  3. 3

You write a letter to your child.

  4. 4

Seal both letters and write "Open on…" with a date one year from now.

  5. 5

Hide them somewhere safe, and put the date in your calendar.

Make it easier

Use prompts: my favorite food is…, my best friend is…, next year I want to…

Make it harder

Add predictions and a list of questions for their future self.

Why it’s worth it

It's a way to say what matters without a big talk. Opening them next year is a moment both of you will remember.
