Glow stick night tag
A family game for after dark

Once it's dark, tape a glow stick or a small flashlight to everyone's arm and play tag or capture the flag in the yard or a lit park. Fast, loud, and way better than it sounds.
You’ll need
- A light for each person: glow sticks, small flashlights, headlamps or bike lights all work
- Tape or hair ties to fix them to arms
- A yard or a well-lit park you know
How to do it together
- 1
Walk the space together while it's still light and agree on the edges: the fence, the big tree, the porch.
- 2
Tape a glow stick (or a small flashlight, a headlamp, a bike light) to each person's arm so everyone can be seen.
- 3
Start with classic tag. Whoever is "it" has to tag a glowing arm.
- 4
Switch to capture the flag: two teams, a light as the flag on each side.
- 5
End with a slow walk around the yard and one question: who was the hardest to catch?
Safety: Only in a space you know, with clear boundaries and no streets, pools or steps nearby. Don't break or chew glow sticks.
Make it easier
With a younger sibling, play freeze tag at walking speed and let them be "it" first.
Make it harder
For 12- and 13-year-olds, play in the dark with only the glow sticks (no porch light), inside clear boundaries.
Why it’s worth it
Running around in the dark with your kids feels like breaking a rule together. They will ask for it again on the next warm night.
